Command Master Chief
CMDCM Leonard Anderson

Master Chief Anderson, a native of the San Francisco Bay Area where he grew up in Oakland, California. Master Chief would go on to enlist into the United States Navy in September 28, 1995 as a Boiler Technician and went on to attend Recruit Training Command and Naval Training Center, Great Lakes, Illinois in July 02, 1996.

His career in the Navy has spanned throughout the Surface fleet, Submarine fleet and now the Aviation fleet. His assignments includes tours of duty on the USS SACRAMENTO (AOE-1), USS PORTSMOUTH (SSN 707), USS GREENEVILLE (SSN 772), USS TEXAS (SSN 775), USS BUFFALO (SSN 715) , Chief-of-the-Boat USS ASHEVILLE (SSN 758), Chief-of-the-Boat USS COLUMBUS (SSN 762). During his sea duty tours Master Chief Anderson completed eight western pacific deployments, three southern command deployments and several humanitarian and drug interdiction missions.

Shore duty assignments include Navy Recruiting District San Francisco (Navy Recruiting Station Fairfield, CA) where he was a Recruiter-in-Charge of a medium station and Assistance Zone Supervisor. Shore duty assignments also include serving on staff with Commander, Submarine Forces Pacific Fleet, Submarine Force Torpedoman, Tactical Readiness Evaluation Team weapons Advisor, Pacific Fleet Force Protection assessment, and Assistant Material Assessment Coordinator for the forward deployed submarine tenders.

He completed the Senior Enlisted Academy with Honors in September 2014 and the Navy Leadership and Ethics center courses of instruction (CMC/COB course) at the Naval War College Newport, Rhode Island in April 2016.

Master Chief Anderson’s decorations include the Navy Commendation Medal (3 Awards), Navy Achievement Medal (10 awards, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Expert Rifle/Pistol, and various campaign and unit awards. In addition, he was awarded the Outstanding Volunteer Service medal for humanitarian contributions.

Master Chief Anderson has been serving as the Command Master Chief for VAW-116 “Sun Kings” since April 2018.
